Technics made a few models of programmable linear-tracking turntables, maybe that's what you're asking about.

Other companies made various programmable turntables, too. This would be from 1975 to the early 80's when CD's obviously caused these devices to be phased out.

In any case, the google search "Programmable turntable" (use the quotes) will probably find what you're asking about.

Does anyone remember a record changer (introduced ca 1977) that used an electric eye mounted onto the stylus cartridge that could detect the blanks between the tracks on an LP and play the side in any order you programmed it to play?? I worked part time for a bank in Wayne, NJ, and one of our accounts loaned us the player (as advertisement, I guess)...I left shortly thereafter to re locate to FL so I never heard of what happened to either THAT machine or to the concept...would like to hear from anyone who knows what I'm talkin'...can't google what yo can't put into words...
