I experimented with a few crystal sets but without amplification, the only station any of them could pick up was WCAU Philadelphia 1010am. It had a 50kW transmitter which just overwhelmed any other signal that was floating on the ether. I made a "wave trap" antenna once but it started to smoke before I could properly test it.
