I used to enjoy making up punny names like that... and still do, as evidenced by the wrong choices in many of the BBeM trivia questions. I hope they generate chuckles all around.

@chrisbroz - I always thought the "outhouse" book was a collaborative effort. Will's co-author was Betty Doughnt.

I guess at 65yrs I haven't grown up yet - I'm snickering at these like I was still a kid!

I thought "Spots on the Wall" was written by Hu Flung Dung???!!! And yeah,... I'm a cretin...just a thought how do natives of Crete refer to themselves...or the residents of the Kingdom of 'Id'???

I remember making school book wrappers for my kids out of brown paper grocery bags. If you did it right, no tape was required to keep them on.

My girls (now 32 and 23) had to cover their books - they got dear old dad to do it, because he had to do it when he was in school. I had to buy my books in school, so I never worried about covering them.

I haven't been able to locate a photo of them, but we used to find plastic-coated paper covers at the stationery store and in the high school's student store. Some had the school's name and team logo, but I liked the kind that had sophomoric (even when I was a Junior) pun-laden titles and authors, such as the following:

  • Breeding Mosquitoes for Fun and Profit, by I. Itch

  • Teach Your Parrot to Talk, by L. O. Polly

  • Spots on the Wall, by Hu Phlung Poo
