We moved from Illinois to Minnesota just 2 years after the Senators moved there. Harmon Killebrew was a favorite of mine while growing up. "The Killer" was a good guy. Other favorites were Bob Allison, Tony Oliva, and Rich Rollins.

Whitey Herzog later became the director of minor league player development for the Mets and was largely responsible for the impressive crop of young talent that powered the '69 championship club. He left the Mets in '72 because he didn't get along with ownership. He later managed the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1980's and made the World Series three times (1982, 1985, 1987), winning once. Herzog said that he thought the Nolan Ryan trade was insane and he never would have made it given the choice.
