Where I lived at the time these hit the scene, they were called topless bathing suits.

Life had this thing for "cultural figure studies." I remember when they did a lot about Japan during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. I remember the picture they did of a young girl in the tradtional bath.

I was 14 when I saw this in Life Magazine. I remember being totally shocked!!
