Mercurochrome
This is a brand name for Merbromin, a topical antiseptic used for minor cuts and scrapes
It is still available in most countries, but no longer sold in the U.S. due to its mercury content.
There was another similar antiseptic called Merthiolate. It also had a reddish tint, but it always stung like heck when mom applied it to a cut or scrape. I don't recall Mercurochrome stinging like that. Of course, mom said, "If it didn't sting, it wouldn't work," so she always used Merthiolate.
This probably saved quite a few kids from death at one time. No one understood the power of staph infections yet.
