Singer Touch & Sew sewing machines
This Model 603E (circa 1963) is one of the last machines Singer produced with metal gears.
Many users report that the switch to nylon/plastic gears was a big mistake for Singer.

I STILL HAVE MINE...... GOT IT WHEN I WAS 15 AND HAD TO GIVE UP BIRTHDAYS AND CHRISTMASES FOR A COUPLE YEARS TO HAVE IT..... STARTED SEWING ON A GREEN MACHINE THAT WAS A 'WHITE BRAND'... WAS YOUNG AT THE TIME AND COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHY A GREEN SEWING MACHINE WOULD BE CALLED A WHITE.....LOL
The switch to plastic gears, and the problems caused thereby, is the reason some users gave the later models of the machine the nickname "Touch & Swear".
