Black & white TV's
that took 5 minutes to warm up...

I had a Muntz 27" that lasted until 1976. I installed an over-voltage driver called a "tube brightener" when it began deteriorate. That was the largest screen you could buy when it was built.

The earliest program I recall viewing on our Black n' White TV was "The Munsters." The picture quality wasn't very clear that evening, 1968 or 1969. However, I recall vividly the moment the delivery guy arrived with our first colour tv. We were all home from school so maybe it was a Saturday. Spring or summer of 1975. The Hitachi sat on a tv stand which had 4 wheels. I remember those three square knobs which the viewer turned to adjust the quality of the picture. We were watching a "WWII" hollywood movie at the time.

I grew up with black and white TV's. When I was really little, my parents had an RCA 25" black and white TV. It was more like a piece of furniture. Later, we had two 19" Zenith black and whites. We didn't have a color TV until 1981, when the Sony Trinitrons became popular. I clearly remember waiting for the picture tube to warm up, and those vertical and horizontal hold knobs.
