Wheat Chex was a reformulation of Shredded Ralston. Rice Chex was also created when the other Chex was introduced in the early 1950s. Corn Chex didn't appear until 1958.
I remember when there was only Wheat Chex and Rice Chex. Also what is now called Chex Mix was called Ralston Party Mix. I remember the commercial, "Every party clicks with Ralston Party Mix."
Loved my mom's homemade Chex Mix because she put in Cheese Nip crackers and Worcestershire sauce, which I used to drink from the bottle. The original recipe called for it.

And they had a recipe to make a party mix with Chex, peanuts, pretzel sticks which the now market directly as Chex Mix®.
They live on, but now made by General Mills and joined by Bran Chex and Honey Nut Chex. Chex mix is still a great snack. It's rather ironic that Ralston-Purina sold the cereal business to General Mills, but then a few years ago got back into the cereal business by buying Post.
