I watched the majority of these. Cartoons today just don't do it. Kids now have no idea what a real cartoon was. These were all funny not violent or stupied like now!

Who could forget the Flintstones (from the opening Theme, to the closing) they were a take off on the Great Honeymooners? Most of the cartoons had well defined characters. You knew who the good guys were, who the bad guys were, who was funny, who was a smart alex, who was just plain smart etc. Each cartoon had a story line. Almost all of the cartoons had a Great Theme Song too, just like the T.V. shows of the day.Todays cartoons lack these things. Today a cartoon is on T.V. to sell products, not for enjoyment. What a shame. These past few generarations are missing so much. Whatever happened to Saturday morning cartoons. Starting at 6:30 or so with Davey and Goliath, then maybe Gumby, then into all the other cartoons. We really were lucky.

Right on! Speaking of smart alecks reminds me of a great definition I heard a while back... Smart-ass: Someone who can sit on an ice cream cone and tell you what flavor it is.

I loved Saturday mornings and getting up early to watch, starting out with Davey and Goliath! I don't see Rin Tin Tin on this list though.

as to howdy ,it was buffalo bob,there was some scuutle but about him and Princes summerfallwinterspring.clarabell the clown was played by capin kangeroo.

clarabell the clown was played by lew anderson. the captain (kangaroo) was played by bob keeshan. and the cartoon topcat was a spinoff of sgt. bilko. and the original howdy puppet is in the smithstonian!!!

Yes, Lew Anderson played Clarabell the clown, but only after Bob Keeshan (later to be Captain Kangaroo) and Robert "Nick" Nicholson had done so.

I used to watch Davey and Goliath on Sunday mornings as well as Saturday. This show was not a cartoon at all. It was clay animation. Just like Gumby was. You would move the clay figure to where you needed it,then you would snap a picture of it,and keep doing that.

Speaking of, where is Top Cat? I was such a fan that my friends called me TC. Remember his sidekick Benny? And Officer Dibble? Somewhere I have a cel from that series.

I know I'm a touch too young (54), but where are "Tom Slick" and his Thunderbolt Greaseslapper, and George of the Jungle, ect. Some of my alltime favorites are all of the "Loonie Toons" characters, Bugs Bunny is my hero, he was only bested by the Turtle, "Jonny Quest", best theme song ever, and Rocky and Bullwinkle. All of these theme songs are on You Tube and a real gas to revisit. . .my wife is giving me the stinkeye.
